values

In this text, I will discuss different values. The film I have chosen as my main focus, is Pursuit of happyness because the story of Mr Chris Gardnes, the main character, demonstrate that if he can make it, anyone can.

The importance of values appears in many aspects of our society, for instance family, friendship, love and in our environment. For example work, school, home and social medias. I believe that what you see as values is up to whom you ask, and that really is in focus in the movie.

In the film Pursuit of happyness, we hear about the different values of poor and rich, coloured and white people. The story really touches you. If you are focusing on the rich people in the movie. You can see that they are putting themselves in focus, to show everyone else that they have money and a good job, for them that is important. While the poor people appreciate food, bed and clothes more than the rich people do, the rich I believe take this for granted.

In my opinion, values are important because it shows who you are as a person, what you care about and your vision on right or wrong. To be helpful, honest and warm-hearted makes you happy, and happiness I believe is a life goal. The stuff that makes us happy is the things we appreciate, also called values.

The main character in the movie is under pressure. First, he loses his wife, and then he loses his home. Therefore, he desperately need to find places to live and cheap food, with a little son on his back. After a while, he starts working at this office, with all these white and rich people. This makes him pretend that he is someone else, for instance pretending he has a car and money to buy taxi, when he actually need spend as little money as possible. That really made me appreciate a bed to sleep in and food on the table every day; so many people need to watch this movie to learn that there is so many people around the world who isn`t as lucky as we are.

To conclude, values are important because it reflects on your perspective of life. If you ask yourself, or somebody else the question “what are values?” don`t stress! It`s actually easy, you just need to mind yourself what you believe is important. Without food I wouldn`t manage to get through the day, so food for me, is one of my values.

-        The first African slaves arrived in the New World as early as 1619.

-        In 1807, the US made importation of new slaves illegal.

-        Abraham Lincoln was elected as president in 1860.

-        After he was elected, South Carolina left the union and was followed by 10 other states.

-         Emancipation Proclamation was a document which gave the slaves freedom.

-        Isolationism.

2. What made the US enter the war?

-         An American boat was attacked in 1917, Wilson had to declare war on Germany.

3. What was the purpose of the League of Nations?

-        The league of nations was formed to secure peace.

4. When did the US enter WW II?

-        When the WW II broke out in Europe, the US did not initially get directly involved, but they provided the Allies with arms and supplies. But when Japan attacked the US naval base of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, and Hitler declared war on the US four days later, Franklin Delano Roosevelt had no choice but to declare war on Germany and the Axis powers.

5. Which president was responsible for the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

-        Harry S. Truman was responsible for the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

-        American women entered the workplace to play their part in the war effort.

-        Because one would have expected them to work together in reconstruction the post-war world.

2. There was a constant race between the US and the USSR to be in front technologically. Which country was the first country in space?

-        The first country in space was the Soviets, in 1957, with the launching of the Sputnik satellite.

3. Who said: “A small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind”?

-        Neil Armstrong said “ A small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind” when Americans managed to put the first man on the moon.

4. Two men were central in the process of ending the Cold War. Who were they?

-        In the mid-1980s, Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev finally sought to end the nuclear arms race.
